Grandma Magelli’s knife
After reading the recent piece on Grandpa Magelli’s hasty trip home from settling his father’s estate in Italy, Aunt Theresa added this delightful anecdote:
“The real reason Grandpa didn’t stay in Italy after his father died, was that it was 1914 or thereabouts (1913) and Garibaldi – I think that’s who it was – was building an Italian army and conscripting every young man he could find.
“Grandpa was afraid of being caught up in that. Here’s a picture of the present he brought back to Grandma. It’s that BIG knife she used to cut noodles with. Romantic or what?”
